ALL PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO
Dancing After School (DAS), a non-profit organization,
teaching kids at risk social dancing after
regular school hours for FREE.
Currently, DAS provide dance classes to 24 schools, 1300 children and employs 47 dance instructors.

There are 10 schools on the waiting list.

Dance Lessons Include:

8:15 pm Salsa/Cha cha dance lesson – Beginners/Inter

Thomas Guererro is one of New York's three leading Dominican dance teachers and a founding member of The Santo Rico Dance Company. If you were to describe Thomas Guerrero's style of dancing to other instructors, you would say he has a very energetic Dominican Street Style of dancing. He is a human metaphor of multiple turns, spins, turn combos, counter turns and sudden stops with change of directions. He has a very strong and aggressive lead. Many women become multiple spinning experts under his style of mambo dancing out of sheer necessity and practice. So if your looking for interesting turn patterns and got energy to burn on the dance floor then Thomas Guerrero may be the instructor for you. The Santo Rico men are known for being effectively strong leaders, while the women have developed a reputation for being dance floor "Spinning Queens."

The schedule promises to close the gap and give you access to over 55 years of dance experience and knowledge from those who have performed and continue to teach at the highest levels.

1:30pm - Salsa Basic booster- Designed to help the beginner to adv. beginner or anyone have trouble with turns / spins and lead follow. Close the gap to dancing salsa with joy and confidence. If you don't quite feel
like you can hang on the dance floor, you will after this workshop. Tony and Maria have a keen eye and
a way of teaching and coaching to give you confidence with the right information.
Don't be a Wall flower watching from the side, get in the game and listen to the award winning "Best Of" San Diego Salsa Classes taught by Tony and Maria Caligagan

2:40pm - Bachata is hot and it will get hotter with some cool moves to get even more comfortable on the dance floor. We are not going to teach the basic step, but we will teach how to lead properly and how to follow with flair. If you want to increase your Bachata vocabulary, this class is for you.

3. Intermediate Advance Club moves and Patterns: Steve Meyer has been co-director of Majesty in Motion for year and he will bring his vast salsa knowledge and wisdom to share with you. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to work with Steve Meyer.

About the Instructors:

A football player turned dancer Tony Caligagan has made a living as a professional dancer for over 20 years. Back in the day, Tony was contracted by the unrivalled "Jazz Unlimited Dance Company" under the tutelage of Patricia Rincon. As a Principal dancer to rave reviews with Jazz Unlimited Tony also won awards from the San Diego Dance Alliance for his performance with "Three's Company ". Other credits include San Diego Opera, Lead dancer in productions by Pacific Opera and Starlight Opera Theater and Sacramento music circus.

After receiving a full scholarship to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center where was eventually offered a contract for the Alvin Ailey dance Theater Tony's career took off. Tony was cast in the Broadway production of "Jerome Robbins' Broadway", where he learned an enormous amount from Robbins' genius. Tony worked directly with Jerome Robbins as a principal in both the Broadway cast and the International tour. Ironically his role as Bernardo in Historic musical "West side Story" and dancing the "mambo" on stage every night (over 400 performances) brought him to his salsa roots. (Tony is of Puerto Rican and Filipino decent) It was in the Tony award winning show that He met his wonderful wife and partner Maria. She appeared as a principal dancer to rave reviews by the New York Times critiques. Maria's training has been very diverse in Ballet, Jazz, acting, voice; she even directed several plays off Broadway in New York. She appeared in the Movie "Cinderella" with Brandi and Whitney Houston and Jason Alexander and has appeared in Many National commercials on television.

Tony was awarded a "Tommy" award as "Jazz Dancer of the Year". He has performed in Television commercials including a principal spot with Paula Abdul. Tony was an honorary guest faculty at Hope College in Michigan and City University in New York, as well as The School of Creative and Performing Arts. Tony is currently teaching Jazz and Dances of the World Latin at UCSD teaching (Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Tango, Beginning and Advanced levels).

Salsa teachers in high demand Tony and Maria's teaching style incorporates techniques in body control for turns and spins. Use of arms and body styling from classical training with an emphasis on sound partnering technique. Their influence in salsa have been from contemporary greats. Going directly to the source in New York they have studied closely (The original Mambo King) Eddie Torres and several L.A. salsa World Champions as well as L.A.greats.

Started on the streets of Seattle, Picoso radiates raw energy at shows. Their original music innovates while remaining rooted in the fundamental extemporaneous groove and feeling of The Cachao Descarga Sessions. While many of Picoso's songs could be described as Salsa, Son or Cha cha, the power and spontaneity of Picoso's live performances cannot possibly be encapsulated in those three words.

Since the band's formation in 2004, Picoso has appeared live in Seattle at The Triple Door, Nectar, The Tractor Tavern, Lo-fi, The Seamonster Lounge, The Scarlet Tree, Tost, The Ballroom, Axis, Las Margaritas, The Mirabeau Room, Ethnic Fest 2005 (Tacoma) and The Bite of Seattle.
